St. George’s Primary School: a one-form entry academy in Hull, part of a multi-academy Trust, with a ‘Good’ rating from Ofsted and working towards Outstanding.
St George’s Headteacher, Louise Oddy, contacted TT Education for some support with improving writing provision.
We implemented a personalised three-year package of writing support, aimed at developing teachers’ confidence, improving pupils’ motivation and engagement through gamification, and creating a Writing Learning Journey specific to St. George’s, to demonstrate writing progression through the whole school.
St. George’s staff received training from TT Education consultants in poetry, fiction and non-fiction teaching. We introduced them to the Path to Success and supported them in the creation of a context-specific Writing Learning Journey. The purpose of this document is to plan for and track progression in writing across the whole school, to enable staff to see how pupils are developing in a very organised and clear way.
Staff confidence increased across the school as this consistent and purposeful approach was implemented. Pupil perception of writing improved and their attainment increased alongside this.
We are now working with all seven primary schools in the Trust.
“Every time that we have worked with TT Education, whether it be a training day or consultation, people come away buzzing with ideas and feeling energised – wanting to carry on and do more. You get us thinking and enable us to develop our curriculum and develop as professionals. We are a lot stronger for it, and our children’s experience, in the long run, will be better for it.”
