Returning to Remote Learning?

With the recent news that the DfE has informed some schools that they are having to close or have reduced capacity, as a result of the issues with Schools buildings containing reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC), this creates additional stressors for what is always a busy start to a new academic year. We are aware from member schools, that school leaders have received previous notification from the DfE about this issue and have been working to put mitigations or make alternative arrangements for the past academic year.

The DFE has recently highlighted that risk mitigations and safety measures should be put in place, and has notified schools previously about mitigating issues or making alternative arrangements. However, there is still the understanding from the DfE this week, that at the start of the term a “minority” of schools will need  to “either fully or partially relocate” to alternative accommodation while those measures are installed, if they have not been able to address the problems. The Education Secretary, Gillian Keegan, has in the past few days stated that the DFE should seek to “minimise the impact on pupil learning and provide schools with the right funding and support they need to put mitigations in place to deal with RAAC”.

TT Education is able to support schools’ facing the decision of moving to remote learning. As five times School Improvement Provider of the Year and working with over 5,000 schools nationally, we are placed to provide some essential and immediate training to schools, whether supporting this current situation or as part of a schools’ wider remote learning strategy.

Remote digital learning has become an essential skill for educators to empower their students and  ensure continuity in learning. TT Education has an online course called ‘Achieving excellence in  remote learningcomprising of a two-part series, available on-demand which can support those staff moving to deliver digital virtual education.

In the first session ‘Remote learning – structuring for impact’ we look at the basics of instruction, transferring strategies to remote education and practical ideas which teacher’s can immediately use in their online delivery. In our second session Remote learning – taking learning further we consider ways of how to engage your children virtually, assessing and auditing your provision, EAL and SEND, and equality of access and protecting your children’s wellbeing.

These sessions would be ideal as refreshers for staff delivering digital virtual learning and support staff with their confidence and understanding of how to deliver effective learning, especially for those needing to quickly move to accommodate virtual digital learning. Alternatively, it would also provide schools with new ideas to consider, to add to your existing remote delivery arrangements.
